Cell Phone Pads

Digital cell phones today account for the vast majority of the U.S. cellular phone market. Cordless digital house-phones are also becoming common. These phones offer great features that are unavailable with analog phones. Unfortunately, they also interfere with hearing instruments. The interference is generally worse for older/larger hearing aid models. It can be so severe that conversation is not even possible. The problem of digital cell phone compatibility with hearing instruments is getting even worse. As cellular phones are getting smaller they may use ceramic speakers rather than magnetic. This means no induction field at all hence, no use of the T-coil. Hearing aid manufacturers have been working toward eliminating digital cell phone interference. The wires/leads and various connections inside a hearing aid act as antennas that pick up the interference. However, many newer hearing aid models are being adapted to become “immune” to this type of interference. Due to newly enacted federal regulations, cell phone manufacturers are developing models that are “hearing aid compatible”. Just make sure to check for hearing aid compatibility when purchasing any phone.
*Note: There are new telephone listening pads specifically for cellular telephones now available to help reduce feedback and increase volume if your current aids are not compatible. Call us for details
