Accreditation: Allegheny General Hospital is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.

Allegheny General Hospital designates this continuing medical education activity for a maximum of 18 credit hours in Category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she has actually spent in the educational activity.

Laboratory sessions will give attendees sufficient time to satisfactorily complete the course objectives. However, as sponsor of the course, Allegheny General Hospital does not certify the competency of any individual.

Purpose: Evaluation of the patient with otologic problems can be challenging. Medical and Surgical solutions are numerous. This course will review medical and surgical otologic issues with didactic and hands-on anatomic sessions.

Workshop Highlights: This intensive two-day course will provide participants the opportunity to individually practice anatomical temporal bone dissection and various otologic operative techniques using the following:
  • Hall/Linvatec power drills
  • Dissection tables with built-in ventilation
  • Extensive laboratory sessions
  • Practice of mastoidectomy and ossiculoplasty techniques
  • Wet temporal bone specimens

    Objectives/Intended Audience: This workshop is intended for otolaryngologists interested in the most recent developments in temporal bone surgical techniques. At the conclusion of the course, participants will have an improved understanding of the microanatomy of otologic operative techniques. This course will consists of didactic sessions, round-table discussion, hands-on temporal bone dissection, and instruction by nationally renowned faculty. The course will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. The schedule will include:
  • chronic otitis media surgery
  • ossicular chain reconstruction
  • stapedectomy
  • surgical treatment of vertigo
  • round-table discussion of otitis media
  • acoustic neuroma surgery
  • cochlear implantation
  • lateral skull base procedures

    A detailed daily schedule will be forwarded with registration confirmation.

    Hotel Accomodations: A block of rooms has been reserved for registrants and their guests at a local hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. Conference room rates are available for a single occupancy. In order to receive the special conference room rates, registrants must specify they are with the Allegheny General Hospital meeting when making reservations. Further information regarding accommodations will be provided during the registration process.

    Please note, room blocks will be held until three weeks prior to the course date. Thereafter, reservations will be taken on a space-available basis only

    Van transportaion between the hotel and the hospital will be provided each day. A detailed schedule will be forwarded with your course confirmation.

    Transportation/Parking Information From the airport to downtown Pittsburgh: The hotel is easily accessed by the Airlines Transportation Express Shuttle with departures from the airport every houre. The cost is $16 per person each way or $30 round trip. No reservations are required.

    Parking at the hospital For participants driving to the hospital, parking is available in the garage located on James Street. Additional information will be forwarded with course confirmation.

    Refund: A refund of the registration fee, less a 10 percent processing fee, will be made when a written request or telephone request followed by a written confirmation is received one month prior to the course. After this date, refunds will not be made. Fees will not be refunded for failure to attend.

    Allegheny General Hospital reserves the right to cancel or postpone any conference because of unforeseen circumstance of insufficient enrollment. In the event of such a cancellation, full tuition will be refunded
