Two exciting new office treatments are available now for inner ear disorders such as Meniere’s Disease or Sudden Deafness.
TRANSTYMPANIC DEXAMETHASONE is a new treatment for the hearing loss and tinnitus that affect patients with Meniere’s disease and other conditions causing fluctuating hearing loss. The treatment involves anesthetizing the tympanic membrane and filling the middle ear with medication weekly for three weeks. The medicine permeates the inner ear through the round window. For many patients this has produced a significant hearing improvement.
TRANSTYMPANIC GENTAMYCIN has become an accepted treatment for the recurring vertigo in Meniere’s disease. For patients who have already suffered a severe hearing loss, this technique effectively cures the vertigo symptoms in 80% of patients. This non-surgical approach is performed as office injections into the middle ear. For patients with recurring vertigo and good hearing, other treatments are generally preferred since the gentamycin may also affect the hearing level
