The PERF was established by Pittsburgh Ear Associates to provide a mechanism to foster education, research and outreach in Otology and Neurotology. The centerpiece is a microsurgery teaching laboratory in the South Tower of Allegheny General Hospital with 9 stations equipped with state-of-the art microscopes, powered instrumentation and regularly scheduled instructional courses for surgeons and general physicians. For its teaching mission, PERF has partnered with Linvatec Surgical as the exclusive provider of power instrumentation and laboratory support. For its education and outreach mission to enhance early identification of childhood hearing loss, PERF has partnered with the DePaul institute for timely pediatric hearing loss identification.
