SOUNDTEC implantable Hearing Aid: A small magnet between the hearing bones can transmit sound clearer than traditional hearing aids

The newest treatment available in the USA for Meniere’s Disease is the Meniett low-pressure device. Available for more than five years in Europe, this device demonstrated success for many patients with Meniere’s who were not helped with medications.
The treatment is designed to change the inner ear fluids by applying low-pressure pulse through the eardrum. After undergoing a minor office procedure in which a small ear tube is placed in the eardrum, the patient uses the Meniett device at home for five minutes, three times daily when symptoms are active.
Although the Federal Government has approved the device, it won’t be commercially available until early 2002. Nonetheless, preliminary studies from Europe are encouraging. Many patients have inquired about the device, and the US distributor hopes to have it available for us within a few months.
USA results are not yet available. Nonetheless, Pittsburgh Ear Associates feel this device is promising. We will keep our Meniere’s patients updated about the status of this new therapy.
